Artist's Comments

Started as a doodle in Photoshop. I was experimenting a lot with texture & lighting & custom brushes here. Started drawing in PS on top of a great texture from :iconpareeerica:
~pareeerica, and used a bunch of custom brushes (and principles) cribbed from :iconblackeri: `blackeri, whose tutorials in ImagineFX have really opened up my head. I probably should have used reference for the figure...oh well.

As usual, critiques, comments, & suggestions welcome & greatly appreciated. :)

Critiques

:iconathena-stock:
This is so beautiful! The textures and use of colors is absolutely exquisite. I especially love the contrast of her skirt and the background, it really makes the image ';pop' in terms of texture. As for position and angle, I think that's equally dynamic as well--but something in the body's tension doesn't add up with the bland expression on her face. She seems too calm and collected (to me at least) feature-wise in comparison to the dramatic angles and the fighting posture of her body as she gears up to fire that spell. So my only real critique is perhaps tweaking the passion in her face--there's lots of expressions to be played around with there, even if it's just an adjustment of the eyes. Keep up the great work! :) :rose:

Wow, that looks awesome, wonderful work. Thx for the link & for showing me your creation :)

Another great picture from you.
I like the velvet like structure of the skirt on her hip and the warm magic glow from her right hand.
The whole picture has a nice soft blurry impression.
Only her right arm is a bit too edgy for my taste.

The lighting on the flaming hand is excellent. The background suits your style. The image feels more complete too. Can definitely see this published in a book somewhere. Your work has improved, great stuff!

forgot to say "thank you" for the texture link - great resource! :)

Thanks! The glow was a happy accident from messing around with blending styles in PS.

Man, thanks for the kind words, Mike. I've been working hard to digest some new working methods, and it's great to know that some improvement is apparent (it can be hard to see my own stuff clearly sometimes!) Cheers! And you keep up that great stuff you've been doing: I'm really psyched about your WotC work.
